Apres l' Ode a l' amour, un livre encore pour l' ELITE, malheureusement. Encore une fois, offert par MayKham, Cher . Trop cher. Mais sublime! Un REGAL pour les amoureux du Beaux et des Textes.Pour le fond et la forme. Mettez cela sur une table basse et tous vos potes vont avoir a discuter durant la nuit. Wow, le type qui a fait John Wick, quelle plume , ce ne sont pas des poèmes non mais des haïkus troublants qui font réfléchir a la vie, a la mort, a l' amour. Je viens d' en acheter un pour offrir. Cadeau précieux dans tous les sens du terme.
This is the second collaboration between artist Alexandra Grant and actor Keanu Reeves. Their first book Ode to Happiness was good but Shadows is so much more original. Much more thought, effort and artistry has been put into this work of art. The book was due to released over a year ago and has only recently just been published.Shadows is a book of images created by Alexandra Grant and words written by Keanu Reeves. The different colour images are shadows of silhouettes of Keanu Reeves each in a pale colour contrasted on a darker background. Some images are still, others are in motion, some are clear, some are blurred, some are distorted and others proportioned of the human form.The written words are a mixture of longing "And I knew I was done and you were gone forever", a description of the subject matter shadow "My shadow is innocent I am guilty", negativity "No matter how you fight it you lose it" and sometimes a glimmer of hope "It is a dance of light of dark". The words could be interpreted as a love letter to the ego or at times to someone you have loved "Try to know love it is your only hope".The book recalls to my mind the classic Jacques Brel song Ne Me Quitte Pas (Don't leave me) "L'ombre de ton ombre, L'ombre de ta main, L'ombre de ton chien..." (the shadow of your shadow, the shadow of your hand, the shadow of your dog...")The images are beautifully captured. The words have been thoughtfully written. I have a friend who is a bit mad for Keanu Reeves. While at her apt. I saw this book on her coffee table and began to look through it. I had no idea what it was at first, but found it interesting. The photographs were like another reviewer stated, something to use your imagination with. It was the writing that caught my attention though. Definitely reflecting personal shadows, which was actually a refreshing change from the typical " you're a butterfly emerging" prose you usually get. I enjoyed looking at it, put it down when she came in with the coffee, and that was that. Or so I thought. At home later that evening, I started decoupaging a binder I had bought to become a journal to help myself work through some pretty rough issues. Like losing my closest friend last Easter to a heroine overdose, growing older, etc etc. yes, I have a gratitude journal and I try to look on the bright side, but it's not always sunshine, sunshine. You have to express it somehow and I thought a journal for shadow issues would be a good start. That's when I started thinking about this book again. So much of what he wrote was relevant. So I put away my craft box ( I always decorate binders because I need to write on college ruled paper!) and ordered my own copy of this book. And when I got it, I cut it to pieces. Yes, sorry. The words are excellent shadow thoughts, and a few of the photo's were perfect, too. Not only do they reflect how I am feeling at times, but they are great writing prompts too. I have started quite a few pages using them as a first line and just letting the feelings flow. I used a vintage reproduction Trapper Keeper, and it looks amazing. I have only watched a few of his movies, but that's just because I always prefer a book, and I don't give much thought that it was Keanu Reeves who wrote the words. But it's just perfect for what I used it for, so thanks Keanu.
It's almost impossible to capture and present the soul as a tangible entity. But in the book Shadows, Grant and Reeves have done exactly that. Page after page of uninhibited verse and haunting shapes against a background of stark muted colors give the reader a glimpse of a man's soul that has many distinct and different faces. Primal, pensive, sad, frightened, and hopeful to name but a few. Though the soul we are seeing appears to be in a constant state of flux, we don't doubt for a minute that at it's core, it is stable. Eternal. Therefore, in a sense, so are we. If you view this fluid and profound work of art, don't expect to walk away feeling gratified or uplifted. Do expect to walk away feeling that you know Reeves, Grant, & maybe even yourselves a little better. Both thumbs up on this one.

Keanu Reeves has intuitive wisdom that should be respected and heard. He speaks loudly without having to say much at all... It is just a beautiful book overall. Can't think of anything critical to say. It is perfect and it makes for a great coffee table book.
If you're a Keanu Reeves fan this is a must have. Go on... buy it.
